Installing Active Directory on Windows Server 2003

This articled describes how to install Active Directory for a brand new forest on Windows Server 2003.

Configure Your Server Wizard

Configure Your Server Wizard Shortcut1. Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and click Configure Your Server Wizard.

Server Role4. In Server Role, select Domain Controller (Active Directory) and click Next.

Active Directory Installation Wizard1. In Active Directory Installation Wizard, click Next.
Operating System Compatibility2. In Operating System Compatibility, click Next.
Domain Controller Type3. Select Domain controller for a new domain and click Next.
Create New Domain4. Select Domain in a new forest and click Next.
New Domain Name5. Specify the full DNS name for the new domain and click Next.
NetBIOS Domain Name6. Specify the domain NetBIOS name and click Next.
Database and Log Folders7. Specify where you want to locate the database and log folders and click Next.
Shared System Volume8. Specify a location for the system volume and click Next.
DNS Registration Diagnostics9. Select Install and configure the DNS server on this computer and click Next.
Permissions10. Select Permissions compatible only with Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 and click Next.
DSRM Administrator Password11. Specify a strong password for the Directory Services Restore Mode administrator password and click Next.
Summary12. Review the summary and click Next.
Installing13. Installation will now begin.
Finish14. Click Finish.
Restart15. Click Restart. Active Directory is now installed.
